In 3/4:

bass-chord-chord makes intuitive sense.

In 4/4:

bass-chord-bass-chord works well.

In 6/8:

you may group:

1 2 3 | 4 5 6

and use:

bass arpeggio arpeggio | bass arpeggio arpeggio

The pattern should reinforce the meter.
