Keep walking swing conventional for the melody chorus.

During solo chorus:

over a static or tonic-major area, use:

tonic major + major triad a whole step above

for Lydian color.

Over altered dominant:

switch to an altered triad-pair vocabulary.

Then quote the melody plainly.

This produces a modern solo while the arrangement itself can remain classic.
