3.72Diminished-chain color
Because dominant ♭9 chords contain diminished sevenths, you can replace portions of the dominant chain with diminished chords.
Example:
A7♭9 → C♯°7.
G7♭9 → B°7.
This creates even smoother chromatic motion.
