A montuno-style piano pattern often uses a repeated syncopated harmonic/melodic cell rather than sustained block chords.

Let's create an exercise.

Over Cm:

RH use two shapes:

A: G-B♭-D.

B: E♭-G-C.

Alternate them rhythmically.
