6.39Your first real arranging decision

Take a melody you know.

Decide:

Where is my first important cadence?

Then choose whether it should be:

V → I — strong closure

V → vi — continue

IV → I — gentle closure

... → V — leave open

Now you are no longer simply “finding chords.”

You are designing the phrase.

That is arranging.
