6.29Repetition plus changed ending

A very common compositional technique:

Phrase 1:

same beginning

different ending.

Phrase 2:

repeat beginning

change the final cadence.

Example:

C – Am – F – G

C → Am → F → G

then:

C – Am – G7 – C

C → Am → G7 → C

The repetition makes it recognizable.

The changed ending gives completion.

This is a great technique when you start composing or arranging your own phrases.
