22.54Substitution and bass line

Sometimes you choose a substitution primarily for bass.

Suppose bass needs:

D → D♭ → C

Then:

Dm7 → D♭7 → C

is perfect.

Suppose you want:

F → E → E♭ → D

You might build chords around that line.

The bass line can choose the substitution for you.
