22.23Backdoor dominant

Now another very useful jazz sound.

Instead of:

G7 → Cmaj7

you may hear:

B♭7 → Cmaj7

This is called a backdoor dominant.

At first, this looks strange.

B♭7 is not the normal dominant of C.

Yet it resolves beautifully.
