17.33Chromaticism should resolve

A strong basic rule:

If you play a chromatic note, know where it is going.

Example:

G♯ makes sense if:

G♯ → A

C♯ if:

C♯ → D

A♭ if:

A♭ → G

The listener accepts a lot of dissonance when it has clear direction.
