17.13Anticipation

Suppose chord changes to C and melody's important note is E.

Instead of waiting for the chord change, play E slightly early.

That is an anticipation.

It creates forward pull.

Rhythmically:

current chord... E

then C chord arrives.

The melody knows the destination before the harmony gets there.
