“Comping” means accompanying with chords, especially in jazz.

Good comping involves:

• voicing
• rhythm
• interaction
• space
• dynamics

Not:

play every chord on every beat.

For now, practice placing chords only on:

beat 1

then maybe beat 3

or an offbeat.
