11.40ii–V without immediate I
Jazz often gives you:
Dm7 → G7
and then goes somewhere unexpected.
So don't assume every ii–V must resolve immediately to its expected I.
Still, identifying the implied destination is extremely useful.
If you see:
Cm7 → F7
ask:
What key would this normally resolve to?
Answer:
B♭
because:
Cm7 → F7 → B♭maj7
is ii–V–I in B♭.
