On C, F, G, D, and A, build:

• °7

Do it from formulas rather than memorized shapes.

B. Transform one chord

Starting on C:

Cmaj7 → C7 → Cm7 → Cm7♭5 → C°7

Then do the same on F.

C. Diatonic seventh chords

In C major, play:

Cmaj7 Dm7 Em7 Fmaj7 G7 Am7 Bm7♭5

Then in G major.

D. Major ii–V–I

Practice:

Dm7 → G7 → Cmaj7

Am7 → D7 → Gmaj7

Gm7 → C7 → Fmaj7

Use guide-tone voicings.

E. Minor ii–V–i

Practice:

Bm7♭5 → E7 → Am

Em7♭5 → A7 → Dm

Am7♭5 → D7 → Gm

F. Dominant destination

Play a random dominant seventh and immediately find the chord it wants to resolve to:

G7 → ?

D7 → ?

E7 → ?

C7 → ?

B♭7 → ?

G. Melody application

Take one melody you have already harmonized with triads.

Replace appropriate chords with:

• maj7
• m7
• dominant 7

Keep the melody on top.

Compare with the original triad version.
