10.7The four basic formulas

Memorize these:

Major 7

1 3 5 7

Example:

Cmaj7 = C E G B

Dominant 7

1 3 5 ♭7

Example:

C7 = C E G B♭

Minor 7

1 ♭3 5 ♭7

Example:

Cm7 = C E♭ G B♭

Half-diminished 7

1 ♭3 ♭5 ♭7

Example:

Cø7 = C E♭ G♭ B♭

These four formulas already cover a huge amount of practical harmony.
