A “Caravan”-type arrangement can derive enormous identity from rhythm.
You do not need constant harmonic change.
Use:
- repeated bass figure
- syncopated chord attacks
- accents
- repeated melodic cells
- percussion-like articulation
The piano can imply an entire ensemble.
