A “Caravan”-type arrangement can derive enormous identity from rhythm.

You do not need constant harmonic change.

Use:

  • repeated bass figure
  • syncopated chord attacks
  • accents
  • repeated melodic cells
  • percussion-like articulation

The piano can imply an entire ensemble.
