You may encounter chains like:

A7 → D7 → G7 → C

A7 → D7 → G7 → C

or their transposed equivalents.

Each dominant points to the next.

Think:

one chain of leading tones.

For example:

C♯ → D

F♯ → G

B → C.

This creates a ladder of semitone resolutions.
