Take one opening packet:

Fm7 → B♭m7 → E♭7 → A♭maj7

transpose the functional idea so the tonic becomes C.

vi in C = Am7

ii = Dm7

V = G7

I = Cmaj7.

So:

Am7 → Dm7 → G7 → Cmaj7

Now you see that the “exotic” original opening is actually a familiar structure in another key.
