3.15Jazz uses "melodic minor" differently

This distinction matters later.

In jazz theory, melodic minor commonly means:

1 2 ♭3 4 5 6 7

both ascending and descending.

So A jazz melodic minor:

A B C D E F♯ G♯ A

and back:

A G♯ F♯ E D C B A

No change on descent.

We'll return to this much later when we discuss altered dominants and jazz scales.

For now, just know that the term may mean slightly different things in classical and jazz contexts.
