Hear a familiar melody, find it, determine its key, identify its harmonic skeleton, choose an accompaniment style, create appropriate voicings and bass movement, add fills, reharmonize selectively, improvise around the melody, create counter-lines, transform rhythm or meter, and turn it into your own arrangement.

That is the real objective we started with.
