A jazz ballad melody can be:
- legato,
- slightly delayed,
- gently accented,
- occasionally detached,
- ornamented.
Avoid playing it like a rigid classical exercise unless the style calls for that.
But also avoid exaggerated “jazzy” mannerisms.
