If a chord seems hard to identify:

1. find bass/root
2. decide major/minor/dominant
3. add 7th if needed

Example:

bass sounds A.

Chord sounds minor.

Likely:

Am

or Am7.

Much easier than recognizing four simultaneous notes at once.
