118.2Five major memory systems
We can divide musical memory into:
1. Auditory memory
You hear what comes next internally.
2. Analytical memory
You know relationships: degrees, chords, functions, form.
3. Visual memory
You remember score/keyboard/layout patterns.
4. Motor memory
Your hands remember movements.
5. Structural memory
You know where you are in the piece and why the next event occurs.
Strong performance uses all five.
