Write a 32-bar improvised-style solo étude.

Requirements:

  • no phrase begins on beat 1 during first 8 bars
  • one phrase crosses at least three chord boundaries
  • one cadence functions as a comma
  • one later cadence functions as a period
  • one antecedent/consequent pair
  • one phrase extension
  • one truncated motif
  • one elided phrase where ending and beginning overlap
  • one target note reserved until bar 24 or later
  • one phrase begins before a chorus/section boundary and continues through it
  • climax occurs before the final phrase
  • last four bars simplify dramatically

The étude should sound like a narrative, not a catalog of devices.
