110.173Conceptual application to “Mack the Knife”
Do not reproduce protected melody.
Take abstract properties:
- recurring chorus
- strong phrase identity
- repeatability
A developmental interlude could derive from:
one rhythmic fragment of the melody
or one cadence/bass pattern.
Increase harmonic/rhythmic distance.
Then return to familiar chorus.
This creates contrast without unrelated filler.
