Before starting, answer mentally:
- What is the key?
- What is the groove?
- Where are the major phrase boundaries?
- Where is the harmonic climax?
- Where is the melodic climax?
- How will texture grow?
- How will I end?
If these are clear, many local details can remain improvised.
