94.145Mini-composition exercise
Write a 32-bar solo-piano étude where touch and articulation—not chord complexity—create the main form.
Requirements:
- first 4 bars mostly dry
- one section with lush resonance
- one section with melody legato over staccato accompaniment
- one section with sustained harmony and detached melody
- one foreground transfer from melody to bass or inner voice
- one chromatic inner line that must remain audible
- one phrase shaped primarily by crescendo
- one phrase shaped primarily by diminuendo
- one cadence forte→piano
- one cadence piano→forte
- one section using articulation motif rather than melodic motif
- one pedal-based transition
- one deliberate complete pedal release creating a sectional boundary
- one false ending using sustained pedal resonance
- final four bars must use fewer notes than the climax but more deliberate voicing/balance
The listener should hear:
an arrangement changing character even when its pitch vocabulary remains relatively simple.
