14.37Common jazz turnaround

Try:

Cmaj7 → C♯°7 → Dm7 → G7 → Cmaj7

This is:

I → #I°7 → ii → V → I

A very useful turnaround sound.

Compare with:

Cmaj7 → A7 → Dm7 → G7 → Cmaj7

Cmaj7 → A7 → Dm7 → G7 → Cmaj7

Both connect I to ii.

One uses secondary dominant.

One uses passing diminished harmony.

Different color, similar directional purpose.
